How To Apply for Secondary School Places at Bales College
You should start by telephoning the school office and making an appointment to visit the school and meet with the Principal, Mr Moore, and the management group. The first telephone call is quite informal, where we use the time to get an idea of the child’s background as well as the parents’ wishes for the child’s education. Further to the first telephone enquiry, parents should visit the school with the child, following which an offer may be made subject to meeting entrance requirements.
Parents should:
- complete and return the application form which will be provided on your visit;
- provide us with copies of previous school reports and examination results.
- provide the enrolment deposit.
Secondary School Taster Days
We have found that “taster days”, where year 6 students take a day off from their primary schools to visit Bales College and experience a normal school day with full lessons, is an excellent way for the parents and the child to get an understanding of the atmosphere and academic environment at Bales College. It also provides us with an excellent view of each child’s suitability to the College. Although we are not specifically academically selective, we look for children who have an interest in education, who are happy, and who want to participate in lessons – which we can gain a proper grasp of on Taster Days, as opposed to relying solely on Year 5, or subsequent, school reports.
For entry into years other than Year 7, students and parents have the opportunity to meet with teachers and see classes in action. If there should be sufficient interest at mid points in the year, more formal ‘taster’ sessions will be arranged for older age groups, where appropriate.
Please contact the office if you are interested in your child attending – booking is essential.
