Key Stage 3 students, as part of the first term theme of “the local community” were split into four groups to plan, film, edit and produce short documentary films.

The four groups were made up of:

Group 1:

“Life of a Refugee”

Maxim, David, Lena

Group 2:

“Glee”

Tolga, Mohammed, Athavan, Jacob, Scarlet, Alisha, Dalia

Group 3:

“Teenage Dreams”

Anais, Ammar, Anuli, Adam, Amy-Lou

Group 4:

“The Life of a Tamil”

Behshad, Luke, Wendy

Group 5:

“The Life of a Refugee pt b”

Sam, Yago, Lena

The students worked with two local charity groups:

the Elders Voice, a local singing from for elderly people in the borough of Westminster; and

Holy Cross Centre Trust (HCCT), a local refugee centre in Camden.

Films were recorded by the students featuring interviews with members of the Elders Voice and HCCT, to document their lives and past.

Editing of the films was done in collaboration with the British Film Institute at their Southbank location, where we did 3 sessions of instruction and editing.

The film evening was put on at the local Art House cinema, the Lexi (www.thelexi.com) and went very smoothly thanks to Mr Flatley’s excellent organisation and help from the KS3 students. Over 70 people made it to the screening, including parents and members of the Elders Voice and HCCT to see themselves on the big screen!

Following the screenings, the group were bussed back to Bales for some food and drinks and a mini-screening of some short cartoons made by KS3 students in art class.

Thanks to everyone involved for their hard work and making it such a good night!
