Along with the players, ‘Team Bales’ have been fortunate enough to have two regular cheerleaders in Shannon and Richard, who help stop Mr McNeill going completely crazy on the sidelines!

We have been fortunate enough to have a superb referee in Rafah Hanna, and all the players are extremely grateful to him.

Next fixture is tonight against David Game, hopefully we can get a vital 3points!

After several Oyster related hiccups, two toilet stops, two overground trains and a DLR, Years 10 and 11 finally arrived at the Museum of London Docklands, West India Quay, to take part in a business workshop kindly arranged by Mr Flatley.

The students were asked to set up a company which was to bid for the opportunity to hold a charity event at the Museum of London Docklands, which was to be funded by a wealthy corporation in Canary Wharf. The day involved planning their charity event which was to promote not only the company’s commitment to sustainability and ethical trading, but was also meant to promote the Museum itself to those that live and work in the docklands area. The team were given £20,000 pounds to plan their venture and all proceeds from ticket sales was to go to their charity of choice. The students worked hard on their themes for their events and their budgeting, and this culminated at the end of the day with a team presentation in which they pitched their ideas to the CEO of the company.

After some strong competition from Havistock School, Team Exotic – Lena Garvey, Anna Krowitz, Honey Muscatt, Louis Bard, Richard Matan, Sam Cuby – won the competition with their idea, “Fishy Friday” which promoted a local charity which stays true to the Dockland’s heritage and promotes sustainable fishing. A bit of underwater glitz and glam obviously caught the judge’s eyes. CONGRATULATIONS TEAM EXOTIC!

Special mentions also need to go out to:

Dami Labiran who put in a great performance after his team got stage fright and left him standing alone at the lectern.

Team Omega as a whole (Sam Pyrz, Behshad Molaei, Michael Creppy, David Zoh, Damilola Labiran, Maxim Haddad) should also be mentioned for coming up with an elaborate theme revolving around people dressing up as Margaret Thatcher!!! (or dock workers). There must have been something in the paninis! Creative stuff!

Team Enigma (Anuli Changa, Alister Ekrami, Candela Uroz, Berk Sahin, Kush Halai, Ammar Monojir) also did some great budgeting work followed by a concise and well thought out presentation made by Anuli and Ammar.

A really productive and proud day for myself and Mr Flatley. Well done KS4!

From secret loos behind hidden panels, ‘modesty’ curtains for ladies and warning bells placed in local taverns giving politicians 8 mins to dash back from their “hard work” to vote, the students heard tales old and new about what it is like to work in Westminster Palace and at the the heart of government.

The students were able to experience first hand the separation of power between the Monarchy and Parliament which has existed since the time of Charles I, they saw the death warrant signed by his 59 regicides and learnt of the many rituals surrounding this landmark point in British political history, like Black Rod getting the door slammed in his face as a sign that the Queen is allowed only by invitation.

Unfortunately there were no live debates to view in the public galleries after our tour so we took a sojourn across the river to the South Bank where the students were finally able to sit down!

The Tate Modern gave wonderful views across the city on that beautiful autumnal afternoon and the students were given the opportunity to explore the Galleries before making their own way home.

A great day had by all – it was a shame Mrs Teji couldn’t be there!

Miss Morris, Mr Flatley and Mr Pearson took Years 7-10 on a 4 day residential to the Cornish Coast.

Though bad weather was forecast during our camping trip, we experienced glorious sunshine and even managed to take a dip in the sea (however brief!).

The students, several of whom got their first taste of surfing while abroad in the South of France during last year’s summer trip, had surf lessons at the local surf school and another day we navigated the rugged coastline in full wetsuit during our coasteering session.

A workshop at the Eden Project about the rainforest’s resources left some students wilting in the heat, but not for long as cooling baobab smoothies saved us all.

We investigated small bays in the area and enjoyed some camp fire revelry after the long days out and about.

The Year 10′s narrowly managed to hold on to their tents and belongings during an unexpected gale and the boys were forced to confront some disgruntled cows. I’m not sure they’ll ever look at cows the same way again!
