At Bales, a GCSE course is followed as a two-year programme starting in Year 10. English and Mathematics are compulsory. In addition to these, pupils select subject options at the end of Year 9 from the following list:

We recommend pupils take a total of eight or nine GCSE courses.

We can enter students for a GCSE examination even if it is not taught within the College. This is quite common, for example, for students who speak another language. Please contact us for more information.

All Year 10 and Year 11 pupils follow a weekly programme of sport.

We accept students into Year 11 to retake GCSES subject to stringent criteria. More information is available here.
