The Lower School
The Year 7, 8 and 9 groups (the Lower School) are run on much the same principles as the rest of the College. The emphasis is on developing children with a well-rounded education, a healthy enthusiasm for learning, and respect for one another and the community.
Students start a programme at Year 7 that takes them right through to GCSE, preparing them in the best possible way for public examinations. A great deal of emphasis is placed on teaching students how to learn effectively, from note taking to examination technique.
Homework is set regularly and timetabled, with a diary system so that parents are fully cooperating. Regular homework from a young age helps build the discipline and organization that is required to do well at public examinations and later in life.
Who joins?
We look for children who show an academic aptitude and interest in learning at primary school. Primary school reports should show an interest in learning and good behaviour record.

We set high academic expectations, but look to maximize the potential of each student. Classes are kept to a maximum of 14 pupils to encourage full participation from each pupil.
The normal entry age is at year 7, although we have limited places available for year 8 and 9 entry.
We run regular open evenings and taster days, where your child will get to sit in on a normal school day with other current students and prospective students.
Please speak with the Principal in person should you wish to arrange a visit to the school.
