Geography

Introduction
Geography is a wide-ranging subject, giving you the opportunity to study a variety of human and environmental issues with a single AS/A2 course.
Activities include group work, presentations, discussions and the use of video and information technology. You will also carry out practical work such as mapwork and the application of statistical methods to geographical problems. Key skills and target setting are built into the course.

• Physical: weather and coasts
• Human: urban and rural environments
A2
Unit 3 - Contested Planet
• Energy security, water conflicts, biodiversity, superpowers, development, technology
Unit 4 - Geographical Research
• One option chosen from: tectonic activity, cold environments, food supply, cultural diversity, pollution, leisure and tourism.

You will be suited to Geography if you:
• have an interest in the world around you
• are interested in the environment
• like to explore the moral, cultural and political dimensions of human values
• have an interest in developing critical thinking skills that enable problem-solving and decision-making
Where does it lead?
To university to study Geography or related subjects, for example Environmental Science, Earth Science, Geology.
Careers using Geography include: working with the environment; geographical information systems; Town and Country Planning; surveying; civil service; law; accountancy; banking; teachin; advertising.
Subject complements
Geography acts as a bridge between the broader humanities and science subjects and is therefore well situated to be combined with all other subjects. Common combinations include: Economics, Mathematics, Bilogy and Sociology.
