Admissions

The admissions process

Admissions start with an initial enquiry to us by telephone, email or by using our online enquiry form.  A member of our admissions department, usually the Principal, will quickly reply.

Places are available for September start in all years, including retake or Year 13. We often have students transfer late to us, after a term elsewhere, because they are not being pushed enough at their current school. To apply for a place in the September 2009 intake, please contact us, download an application form or order a prospectus.

In response to your initial enquiry, we will send you a printed prospectus and information pack, containing our application form. If distance and time allows, the potential student will be accompanied by his/her parents/guardians for a visit to Bales College, an interview with the Principal and possibly other senior members of staff, and a discussion with various subject teachers.

Entry requirements

Bales Independent School
Entrance to the school is dependent on evidence that the pupil is academically able and has a desire to learn, and positive references from the previous school.  In some cases, we will require the pupil to sit an entrance examination so that we can better assess his/her numeracy, literacy and reasoning skills.

Bales Sixth Form
We require a minimum of five grades of C or better at GCSE, or the equivalent overseas qualifications.

Offers to enrol
Further to the visit, a place may be offered once relevant references have been received.

If a visit proves impossible, a telephone discussion between the parents/guardians and the Principal can suffice, provided strong written references are received from previous schools.
Once a place is offered, the application form should be completed and returned together with the enrolment fee of £120 and deposit of £500.
